Perspectives and Useful Tidbits on Software Development, Cybersecurity, and I.T.

Hi there,

My name is Chris Umbel and I’m currently the CTO of a small digital entertainment company in Western Pennsylvania. While I’ve spent my entire career in technology, I’ve also held titles such as Software Developer, Database Administrator, DevOps Director, Solutions Architect, and Product Manager. I’m also a CyberSecurity Analytics and Operations student at Penn State University and amateur cybersecurity researcher.

When I’m not working, I busy myself fixing or modifying vintage computer and video game equipment, designing and building electronics, welding, running, lifting weights, and eating healthy food.

I’ve had a blog for the better part of the last 17 years, but took a hiatus from 2016 to 2022. I doubt I’ll be able to post frequently, but I do intend to try to get something out at least every 60 days now. The content will mostly revolve around software development, I.T. operations, cybersecurity, and management; but I do hope to get some hardware hacking and retro computing posts in, too. I’ve also resurrected some real old content that’s been linked-to from elsewhere on the web. Hopefully some of it is useful for you.

If you do find it interesting and would like to gab, feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn or email me at <chris at chrisumbel dot com>.
